Logging In

All of Yesterdays is available to browse without an account.

Logging in with an OpenStreetMap account enables you to interact with Yesterdays at a deeper level:

  • submitting comments to images
  • reviewing (validating) others' georeferences
  • adding subjects to images
  • submitting "from above" georeferences
  • and more!

When you click "Login with OSM", you will be redirected to OpenStreetMap to login with that account. Once the login flow is complete, you will be returned to Yesterdays with your OpenStreetMap display name and profile picture visible in the navbar.

Making an OpenStreetMap account

Click here to create an OpenStreetMap account. In doing so, you must agree to the OpenStreetMap terms of service and privacy policy.

Why OpenStreetMap?

OpenStreetMap (OSM) is widely considered to be the hub of open mapping. Launched in 2004, OSM has grown into a global community of mappers who work together to build an incredibly detailed database of geospatial information.

How Yesterdays Uses OpenStreetMap Data

In the maps presented on Yesterdays, the default basemaps consist of OpenStreetMap data including roads, buildings, and bodies of water. On the subjects map,

Yesterdays' Affiliation with OpenStreetMap

OpenStreetMap is governed by the OpenStreetMap Foundation (OSMF). The OSMF has "local chapters," country- or region- level entities which represent the OSM community in that area. OpenStreetMap US (OSMUS), a 501(c)(3) organization, is the OSMF local chapter representing the United States. Yesterdays is an OSMUS Charter Project.
